Had a great time earlier at a Crowd Funding / CO-OP luncheon, we talked about the direction of finance and the great new thing called Crowd Funding. The sad truth is that crowd funding is not new, the name may be but not the concept, and what was truly surprising is that everyone thought they had all the answers to solving the tool use of social media to generate capital attraction. I see social media as a phone call, you answer only if you first know who is calling and second if you wish to talk with the caller, the belief that a great video and a constant blitz of updates is the path to follow is not my belief. I still believe that the human reaching out along with a descriptive expression in video and printed booklet tied into limited email updates is still the way to go, this presently works for us and has been 100 % successful simply because it makes for a fully informed decision. Many find this to be time-consuming and dislike the closed circle launch that is used as we only focus on those that are aware of the project and not the use of a full public platform, we focus on our client list along with the people you know and build from there, I am not in favour of reaching out to the public unless the project offers a product in exchange for participating. Crowd Funding and Crowd Sourcing has and always will be with us, and was not created by social media. I still believe in the power people and a story my mother told me of a farmer and how he received the help of the village to water his crops in exchange for a share in his crops, which I think was Crowd Sourcing.
